At age 79, John W. Green was struggling with shortness of breath when an angiogram revealed significant coronary blockages. His cardiologist, Nikhil Daga, MD, referred him to Robbin G. Cohen, MD, a Cedars-Sinai cardiothoracic surgeon at Huntington Health in Pasadena.

“I wanted him to have the best long-term outcome,” said Dr. Daga. “Given the severity of the disease, surgery was clearly the safest path.”

At their first appointment, Dr. Cohen had already reviewed the full medical history and imaging. He summarized the situation clearly, recommended a quadruple bypass, and discussed alternatives, noting that some cardiologists might choose stents. “I always want patients to understand every option,” said Dr. Cohen. “In his case, bypass surgery offered the most durable solution.”

The patient felt reassured: “I asked a ton of questions. Every answer was straightforward, honest, and put me completely at ease.”

The surgery went very well, and Dr. Cohen personally updated the family afterward. The patient was discharged just four days later—earlier than expected—and used a walker for only the first couple of days. Four follow-up visits confirmed excellent healing.

Eighteen months later, now 80, he is thriving: golfing three times a week, active in Rotary Club, and recently traveled to visit family in Japan and England. “Based on my experience and outcome, I strongly recommend Dr. Cohen for cardiothoracic surgery.”
