Our volunteers represent one of the hospital’s greatest assets. We are so grateful to our volunteers who together donate thousands of hours per year. Over 1,000 volunteers provide service to many different departments and programs at Huntington Health.

Steps to Becoming a Volunteer

- Complete onboarding process. Onboarding process can take up to 2-3 weeks to complete.
- 2-Step TB Skin Testing (provided by the hospital)

- Please ensure you have the availability to commit to this opportunity, as it requires a consecutive weekly commitment.
- We understand that vacations and other extracurricular activities may impact your schedule. If you have significant upcoming commitments, we recommend applying when you can fully dedicate time to volunteering before taking extended time off.

Adult Volunteer Requirements:
Commitment
Adult volunteers who are not currently enrolled in school are asked to commit to 100 hours of service per year.
Attendance Policy
- To participate in our program, volunteers must commit to a minimum of 6 hours per month. Volunteer shifts are scheduled for the same day and shift time every week.
- Adult volunteers must commit to a minimum of 6 consecutive months of weekly service.
Flu Shot
From November 1 to April 30, all volunteers must receive a flu shot or sign a declination form and wear a mask during flu season.
College Volunteer Requirements:
Commitment
College students are asked to commit to 50 hours of service per year.
Attendance Policy
- To participate in our program, volunteers must commit to a minimum of 6 hours per month. Volunteer shifts are scheduled for the same day and shift time every week.
- Volunteers must commit to a minimum of 3 consecutive months of weekly service.

2026 College Application Dates
Our college application portal will be open during the following months for the 2026 admissions cycle:
- January – April
- Opening: August 24th at 8:00am – Closing: September 4th at 4:00pm
Applications will be closed from May – July and October – December.
Please plan ahead and submit your application during the open periods.
High School Student Volunteer Requirements:
Eligibility
- Must have completed 9th grade (rising Sophomore)
- Minimum cumulative of 3.0 GPA (school transcript required)
- One letter of recommendation on school/company letterhead (from a teacher, school administrator, or supervisor who has known you for at least 1 full year)
- High school seniors must apply before January of graduation year
Commitment & Attendance Policy
- To participate in our program, volunteers must commit to a minimum of 6 hours per month.
- Volunteer shifts are scheduled for the same day and shift time every week (for example, if you are scheduled for Mondays from 4:00–6:00 PM, you are expected to report every Monday from 4:00–6:00 PM to the same assigned area).
- All newly accepted high school volunteers must complete at least six (6) consecutive months of weekly service.
- High school students are asked to commit to 40 service hours per year.
Flu Shot
- From November 1 to April 30, all volunteers must receive a flu shot or sign a declination form and wear a mask during flu season.
2026 High School Application Dates
High school applications will be accepted on a first‑come, first served basis as spots are limited.
Applications open at 8:00 AM on the first day and close at 8:00 PM on the final day. Once the application window closes or we reach capacity, we invite you to apply to the next session you are available. Sessions are as follows:
- Spring Session Application Dates: January 7 – 9
- Summer Session Application Dates: April 8 – 10
- Fall Session Application Dates: July 8 – 10
- Winter Session Application Dates: Oct 7 – 9
All requirements must be submitted by the deadline. Failure to do so will result in having to reapply for a future session.
Volunteer Program – Frequently Asked Questions

A: You can begin once you’ve completed all onboarding steps, met with a Volunteer Services Manager, and have a confirmed training and/or start date.
Typical timeline: Most volunteers begin within 4–6 weeks of submitting their application.
A: Yes. As part of your onboarding, TB testing is provided at no cost through our Employee Health Department. If a chest X‑ray is needed, that is also provided at no charge.
A: Yes. We accept TB clearance completed within the past 6 months. You may submit documentation from a previous test or complete TB testing through an outside provider at your own expense.
Accepted documentation includes:
- Two‑step TB skin test (two separate tests completed and read within one month)
- QuantiFERON‑TB blood test
- T‑Spot blood test
- Chest X‑ray (when applicable)
A: Volunteer opportunities are available seven days a week, with shifts beginning as early as 8:00 a.m. and ending as late as 11:00 p.m., depending on the assignment. During your interview, you’ll work with your Volunteer Services Manager to select a consistent weekly shift.
Common shift times:
- 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
- 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
- 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
- 8:00 p.m. – 10:00/11:00 p.m.
Typical Shift Length:
- High school volunteers: Minimum 2 hours
- Adult & college volunteers: Up to 4 hours per day
A: Volunteers serve once per week for 2–4 hours and are expected to attend weekly, consecutive shifts until completing their program’s minimum hour requirement:
- Adult Volunteers:100 hours
- College Volunteers: 50 hours
- High School Volunteers: 40 hours
You’re welcome to continue beyond the minimum. Many volunteers find that the longer they serve, the more connected and confident they feel supporting our patients, families, and staff.
A: Additional shifts may be available in non‑nursing unit assignments, depending on department needs. Nursing units are limited to one shift per week to ensure fair access for all volunteers. All additional shifts must be reviewed and approved by your Volunteer Services Manager.
A: For a single missed shift, please notify your assigned department or unit contact as soon as possible. If you’ll miss more than one shift, email your Volunteer Services Manager as well so we can support you and your department.
A: At this time, our NICU Cuddler Program is at capacity, and we are not accepting new requests. We encourage you to explore other meaningful volunteer roles and check back periodically for openings.
Please note: NICU placements require at least 100 volunteer hours completed prior to eligibility.
A: No. Our volunteer roles are strictly non‑clinical, and volunteers do not provide hands‑on patient care. At this time, we also do not offer internships or one‑on‑one shadowing opportunities through Volunteer Services.
A: No. Once you are officially onboarded and have your Huntington Health ID badge, you may access volunteer parking and badge in/out at no cost.
Please note: Parking is not validated during onboarding appointments before you receive your badge, and may be at your own expense. We appreciate your patience during this brief period.
A: It depends on when you last volunteered:
- Within the past two years: Email the Volunteer Manager to request reactivation.
- More than two years ago: Please submit a new application so we can update your information and complete required onboarding steps.
